Have you ever wished you could magically diminish your chronic pain and dysfunction? Look no further! Visceral Manipulation is here to be your knight in shining armor! With this revolutionary form of manual therapy, you can now treat yourself naturally.

Read on to discover the power of Visceral Manipulation and how it can help you overcome chronic pain and dysfunction.

What is Visceral Manipulation?

Viscera Manipulation is a hands-on therapy that gently restores the natural position, motion, and tone of the body's internal organs. The idea is to encourage your body's vital organs to move more freely, reducing restrictions that can cause pain and dysfunction.

This type of therapy is based on the belief that all our organs exist in a state of balanced motion and tone. When this balance is disrupted, it can lead to medical conditions such as chronic pain and dysfunction.  By applying gentle manual pressure to the viscera, practitioners can help restore balance and reduce symptoms.

Visceral Manipulation was developed by French Osteopath Jean-Pierre Barral. For over four decades, he has been researching, refining, and teaching this unique form of therapy. He is considered one of the world's leading experts in the field and has trained over 8,000 practitioners in Visceral Manipulation.

Benefits of Visceral Manipulation and Dysfunction

Visceral Manipulation can be used to treat a variety of chronic pain and dysfunction issues, including lower back pain, sciatica, pelvic misalignment, and abdominal hernias. It can also treat digestive disorders like irritable bowel syndrome.

In addition to treating physical symptoms, Visceral Manipulation can help patients emotionally by creating a sense of well-being and relaxation. This connection between the mind and body is key in treating chronic pain and dysfunction.

Example of Visceral Manipulation Treatment

Let's explore an example of how Visceral Manipulation can treat chronic pain.

Case study of a woman with back pain

A woman came to me complaining of back pain after giving birth to her second child. She said she had the same pain after the birth of her first child, but it went away after a few weeks, and she’s now 6 months postpartum with her second, and the pain is still there.

As a physical therapist, there were many possibilities for the source of her pain – core weakness, pelvic floor dysfunction, and flat arches. She told me she’d already seen a physical therapist who addressed all these issues, and her pain remained.

Since the “standard” physical therapy treatments were already addressed, I used Visceral Manipulation techniques to assess the “inner world” of her body. I found her colon was restricted and didn’t have the mobility it needed in relation to her diaphragm.

Working gently with her colon and the surrounding tissues, the restrictions were eased, and the next day, she not only had significantly less back pain, but she felt “freer” throughout her whole body.

After 4 visits, her pain disappeared, and she had more energy to be the mom she wanted without dealing with chronic pain.

How was visceral manipulation used to treat the issue?

The key to this case study is that the traditional physical therapy treatments were not enough to relieve her back pain. Once the visceral restrictions were addressed, her body began to heal itself from within.

By using gentle manual manipulation, I could assess her organs and apply the appropriate amount of pressure to ease the restriction, allowing her body to return to its natural balance.

Finding Qualified Practitioners

Accessing Visceral Manipulation therapies can be difficult as it is still considered a specialty treatment. Here are some tips for tracking down someone trained in Visceral Manipulation:

  • Ask your primary care physician for a referral to an experienced therapist

  • Check with local universities and medical centers that offer specialized treatment programs

  • Search online directories such as the International Association of Healthcare Practitioners (IAHP), which maintains a list of qualified practitioners.

Gaining access to this specialized therapy may be limited

In some areas, finding a qualified practitioner of Visceral Manipulation can be difficult. Depending on where you live, the closest practitioner may be hundreds of miles away. Be sure to ask your primary care provider for any referrals they can give you if there are no practitioners in your area.

Conclusion

Visceral Manipulation is an effective and alternative treatment of chronic pain and dysfunction. It can help restore balance to the body, both physically and emotionally. While it may be difficult to find a qualified practitioner, it can provide an alternative to traditional treatment modalities. Life is too short to live with chronic pain, and Visceral Manipulation can offer relief.
